AN ORDINANCE OF THE UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE, KENDALL COUNTY,
ILLINOIS,ESTABLISHING THE NUMBER OF ALDERMAN TO SERVE ON THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE
WHEREAS, the United City of Yorkville (the "City") is a duly organized and validly existing
non home-rule municipality created in accordance with the Constitution of the State of Illinois of 1970
and the laws of the State; and,
WHEREAS, Section 3.1-20-10 of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/3.1-20-10) provides
that the Mayor and City Council (the "Corporate Authorities") of the City may within one year after
receipt of the new federal decennial census determine the number of alderman that will serve on the City
Council; and,
WHEREAS, Section 3.1-20-10(b) of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/3.1-20-10b)
provides that a municipality, based on the most recent federal decennial census, with a total population
exceeding 15,000 but not exceeding 20,000, may establish eight (8) as the number of alderman to serve

on the City Council; and,
WHEREAS, the 2010 federal decennial census, received by the City in May 2011, found that
the total population of the City was 16,921 which was a 173.4% increase over the City's 2000 total
population of 6,189; and,
WHEREAS, the Corporate Authorities of the City hereby desire to establish the number of
alderman based on Section 3.1-20-10(b) of the Illinois Municipal Code and receipt of the 2010 federal
decennial census at eight (8) thereby retaining the current number of alderman on the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the United City of
Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois, as follows:
Section 1. The above recitals are incorporated and made a part of this Ordinance.
Section 2. That pursuant to the authority of Section 3.1-20-10(b) of the Illinois Municipal Code
and receipt of the 2010 federal decennial census data showing the total population of the City to be
16,921, it is hereby established that the number of alderman on the City Council of the City shall be
eight (8) and pursuant to Section 3.1-20-15 of the Illinois Municipal Code the division of the City shall
remain into four(4) wards.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage, approval, and
publication as provided by law.
Passed by the City Council of the United City of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois this
