Meeting March 28, 2011
Beecher Community Center
Present: Cecelia Sanders, Bonnie Schradel, Robert Skidmore, Tim Evans, Glory Spies, Patty Strahan,
Bette Schoenholtz, Rita Murphy, Larry Jennings
Bette Schoenholtz opened the meeting.
Introductions
Approval of Minutes – There was approval of the past several months minutes.
Rita made a motion to approve the November 2010 minutes, Bob seconded. Approved.
Bob made a motion to approve the January, 2011 minutes, Rita seconded. Approved.
Tim made a motion to approve the February, 2011 minutes, Bob seconded. Approved.
Old Business
1. There will be a movie at the Rec Center on Wednesday, “Secretariat” and April at the
Beecher Center will be “The Great Debate” with “Gran Torino” in June.
There was discussion on whether other movies, such as newer releases should be shown. Patty
stated the ones that have been shown were ones selected by the seniors and newer movies are
often difficult to get due to being popular. There is some problem with it being too light in the
room for the more ‘darker’ filmed movies. The seniors seem to prefer funny and light hearted
movies.
2. Older Americans month is May. It is also Nursing Home Month and Hillside will be helping
with some of the projects as well as having their own. The Senior Health Fair on Friday, May

13 at the Rec Center has 8 vendors so far. A Chamber e-blast will be sent out. St. Patrick’s is
holding a Fashion Show that month, also.
3. The Walking Club is on-going. Patty mentioned transportation to the Rec Center to walk the
track there.

4. St. Patrick’s Youth group is sponsoring a Picnic for the seniors on Friday, June 10 and they
have the menu made up. They requested a sign-up so they know how many to provide for.
There was a question about entertainment and the suggestion was made to see if there are any
youth who would like to perform. There will also be door prizes.
New Business

April 16 will be Breakfast With The Easter Bunny. The Rec Center is also doing the Easter
Train that day.
Bette remarked that they once did a May Pole Dance when they were at Countryside, but it is
complicated.
Senior Services is holding a Raffle at their Fundraising Annual Dinner and Auction. Tickets are
$50 each and 250 will be sold. The first prize is a trip to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun.
The Governor doesn’t have funding for Circuit Breaker and the Pharmaceutical program in his
budget for the year.
In home services will be for Medicaid only. Half of the current participants are not on
Medicaid.
BC/BS has an exception form for medication according to Rita.
Bette reported that Kendall County had 45 Elder Abuse cases last year.

June 24 will be Riverfest and May 14 there will be a Ribbon Cutting for the Canoe Shoot.
