The campaign aims to raise $75,000 to fund frill restoration and establish a long-term maintenance endowment that will keep the flame burning well into the future. Erected in 1969 by Yorkville American Legion Post 489, the monument honors local veterans of all American wars who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. For years, the flame at its crown has stood dark, a silence the community is ready to break. With a target completion of late April 2027, organizers plan to reignite the flame in time for Memorial Day, restoring a visible symbol of gratitude to the town's landscape. Time has taken its toll on the monument, and the flame has not burned in years. Organizers are asking the community, and particularly area businesses, to step forward with donations to help restore it and keep it lit for good. "We want to light the flame now, but we also want to make sure it stays lit," said Jeff Sander, Post Commander. "This isn't just a repair. It's a promise to the veterans we honor and to every generation that comes after us." The campaign will roll out a series of donation opportunities in the coming months, including: Prime Rib Dinner: Saturday, November 14. Additional event details, including time, location, and ticket information, will be announced soon. Memorial Brick Sponsorships: Community members can sponsor a brick honoring a veteran by name, creating a lasting tribute at the monument site. Additional donation opportunities will be announced as the committee finalizes plans in the coming weeks. The Veterans' Monument in Yorkville Town Square Park stands as a tribute to the service and sacrifice of all local veterans of war. Organizers say the restoration effort is about more than repairing a structure. It's about ensuring the community's gratitude toward its veterans remains visible and well -maintained for years to come. k DONATE TO H L-: I_,--, G' I c LIGHT THE FLAME The flame at the Veterans Monument in Yorkville Town Square Park went out years ago.
