YORKVILLE GREEN COMMITTEE
January 24, 2011
7:00 P.M. -
Yorkville Library
Mission Statement: To advise the City Council of the United City of Yorkville, Illinois on ways to
enhance the community environment and ways to equip and encourage citizens and businesses to
participate in sustainable ecological practices.
Call to Order: Marta Keane called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m.
Welcome Members and Guests:
Marta Keane – chairperson; Anne Engelhardt – secretary;
Seaver Tarulis; Al Green; Richard Scheffrahn; Becca Cherwin; Jackie Dearborn – City of
Yorkville, liaison. Lee arrived at 7:24 p.m.
No guests and no citizens comments reported.
Approval of Minutes:
Motion: Scheffrahn. Second: Tarulis. Vote: 5 yes. 1 abstain Green).
New Business:
1. Tour Electronics Recycling Site Dearborn and Engelhardt reported that Com2 will do a free
one-hour tour in Carol Stream; call 2-3 days ahead; be there at 9:30 a.m. Dearborn will check on
either March 8 or 15.
2. Request from Engelhardt to have another member of the committee serve as secretary. Please
notify Keane to volunteer for this position.
Committee Reports:
1.Environmental Fair Committee - March 5, 2011 11am-4pm
Dearborn reported that Com 2 will be present to accept electronics at the Go
Green Fair. They will be located across Route 47 in the old Countryside Center
parking lot.
Scheffrahn reported and gave a list of presenters. There is just one slot to fill at
this time.
Engelhardt offered to set up an exhibit for the Green Committee at the Fair.
Cherwin will help staff the booth.
Lee reported that all the schools now have information regarding the art contests
for the Fair.
Harry Wolf, Sponsor of SAFE, will coordinate with Lee in regard to students
helping with the Fair.
Merry Hearts clowns will be present; Rita from Yorkville Public Library will read
books; Deanna Bazan will be a presenter; Karin in Maureen will have a couple of
arts/ crafts project. Art Fair judging will take place on Friday night and the
winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Dearborn will oversee the logistics of setting up tables and equipment.
Lee has put out announcements for vendors in numerous media, including web
sites, facebook, and the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce email blast. Currently
more exhibitors are needed.
Lee requested all Green Committee members to watch for and invite potential
exhibitors.
Lee suggested we need catchy titles for the presentations.
Lee will ask students to walk with a sign to announce the speakers throughout the
day.
Volunteers from Jacob’s Well will bring a tarp to cover half the gym floor and
will hand out water bottles with their advertisement.
Set up willtake palce Friday, March 4, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The track will be closed
to runners on Saturday morning.
Foods area will be relocated and will include some tables and chairs.
Engelhardt will inquire about the YCC Youth group to check that they will be
selling luch and snack foods.
All Green Committee members are needed to help with set up, help during the fair
to staff some of the tables, such as the welcome table, the Committee table, and
clean up. Time of Fair is 11- 4; need volunteers from 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. or until all
is cleaned up.
Lee went over the list of tasks of exhibitors and presenters.
Scheffrahn is checking on the possibility of video recording the speakers.
Lee will get the re-usable bags ordered before the end of February.
2.Share & Care Recycling Event – Preliminary Planning 2011
Dearborn will check with the City’s calendar for October 15. (Tentative.)
Engelhardt will contact Mike Drendel, President of the KC Fair Grounds, and Jeff
Jerabek, Scout Master of Troop 40, to see if the scouts will be able to assist on that
date.

2.Earth Hour – Next Global Date March 26, 2011 - Keane suggested that the City turn off
some lights for Earth Hour. Scheffrahn motioned that we send a formal request to the
city asking them to participate in Earth Hour in whatever way(s) they deem appropriate
and that they write a press release for this promotion of Earth Hour. Engelhardt
seconded. Vote: All yes.

Engelhardt recommended that Keane send the follow-up comments from the Green Committee to
the Mayor. Keane wants to add comments and will send out by the end of the week.
3. The City of Yorkville has earned the Green Business Designation by the Chamber of Commerce
Green Committee. A press release and presentation by a chamber member to the Mayor will be
coming.
4. Keane requested Dearborn to give a follow-up report on the start-up of a community garden,
which was presented by Anna Schwein in November.
5. “Green” Music Under the Stars, on July 8, 2011, will be a Green event. Chiro I and other
sponsors will be present in order to cover the cost of the band. Red Horse Band is contracted.
The non-profit groups will be invited to have free tables for promos, projects, demos. The City of
Yorkville will be providing the food.
