Old Business
1.Glory Spies was not present to discuss the insert.
2.The Walking program is something Parks and Rec is working on. Senior Services
does have a program with the Cooperative Extension that they are trying to revive.
Bette mentioned that in Elgin they have a pedometer walking program that was
started with AAoA money. It includes an evidence based program of 12 weeks with
sessions on nutrition included. Rita Murphy mentioned that only 2 or 3 participate in
the walking program at Beecher now.
3.No one from Parks and Rec was present to talk about the idea to have registration for
seniors done at the Beecher Center
4.The Needs survey was discussed and Bonnie has updated it from the last meeting.
Bette stated is should also include special events and parties. Rita suggested adding
Bunco and Bob suggested asking if people attend or want support groups. Bonnie
Olsem mentioned special events and programs should be included. Bette mentioned
that in Elgin they started a ‘point’ system for attending events or programs at the
Center and twice a year they have a ‘mall shopping’ event where the points can be
used to ‘purchase’ small gift items that Senior Services can buy at a discount. Bonnie
Schradel mentioned a plan for a dance in August or September, possibly for
Grandparents Day, with the Big Band performing and all ages invited to attend.
Bonnie O stated the water bills will go out July 1, so the survey should be finished
before that time in order to be included.
5.There was no one to address putting information on the website.
6. The renewal of the lease will be discussed in future City meetings.

the area who are in immediate need of food.
Cecelia Sanders mentioned the NORC (naturally occurring retirement community) idea
that has been presented by the AAoA at the Aurora Township meeting last week. Aurora
Township is thinking of working with some kind of program along this line to get in
touch with seniors who may not have been contacted or know about services.
Additional Business:
th
It was decided to meet regularly on the 4 Monday of each month. The next meeting will
be May 24, 2010.
There was some discussion on the refuse bill, but that may not change.
Cecelia mentioned that there was a radio report of continuing the free ride for Illinois
seniors, and cutting State Police in the state budget. However, this program of free rides
for seniors is not statewide and seems to only be in the Chicago and collar counties to
begin with.
Meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
Next meeting – Monday, May 24th, 8:30 a.m. at Beecher Center
