2.Community Gardens –Discussion
Anna Schwein updated the committee about the community gardens. She had contacted
the Extension office about conducting gardening classes. Classes will be held at the
gardens on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Water is available at the garden sites and 35-gallon buckets were donated from Home
Depot through Behr paints. It is hoped that raised garden beds can be made for senior
citizens. Ms. Schwein has also asked for Boy Scout volunteers to assist seniors with
planting and weeding. She sent a message to all senior gardens about this possible
assistance. Ms. Burks noted that this would be a beneficial partnering idea with the High
School and felt all kids should perform community service. Photos will be taken and
sent to the Record and the “Patch”. There is currently one vacant lot that will be planted
with pumpkins to be donated later.
