Public Safety Minutes 2009 10-29-09 APPROVED W/ CORRECTIONS 12/21/09 UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE 800 Game Farm Road Yorkville, IL 60560 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING City Hall, Council Chambers Thursday, October 29, 2009 – 6:00 P.M. PRESENT: Chairperson Werderich, Committeemen Munns and Spears ABSENT: Committeeman Plocher ALSO PRESENT: Chief Harold Martin, Lt. Hart, Lt. Schwartzkopf. Chairperson Werderich called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm. PRESENTATION: None MINUTES: The minutes of August 27, 2009 and October 9, 2009 meetings were approved as amended. NEW BUSINESS: 1.PS 2009-34 Police Reports for September, 2009 Chief Martin distributed a supplemental report of the State of Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting for Kendall County. He noted that crimes in Yorkville were down in 2008 by 32.9% over 2007. This item was moved to the Consent Agenda. 2.PS 2009-35 Public Safety Committee Meeting Dates for 2010 Chairperson Werderich stated that there have been scheduling issues and th therefore, suggests changing the meeting to the 4 Thursday of the month to try to accommodate everyone. Committeeman Munns found that to be acceptable. Committeeman Spears noted that it would no longer conflict with KenCom meetings. The Police Department representatives had no issues with the change. OLD BUSINESS: 1.PS 2009-32 Ordinance Amending City Code Regarding Towing of Vehicles Chairperson Werderich stated that the draft ordinance is what he had in mind from the previous discussion. Committeeman Munns found it to be acceptable. Committeeman Spears asked if Attorney Orr feels that there will be no issues as 1 the City of Yorkville is not home-rule. Chief Martin replied that Attorney Orr has stated there would be no issues, however, he would ask for that statement in writing on behalf of the committee. 2.PS 2009-33 Committee Liaison Review Chairperson Werderich stated that the School Board Liaison position is currently open. He will open this position up to the remainder of the City Council members as there is no interest from the members of this committee. ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION: Committeeman Munns – He noted that the Village of Oswego did a crosswalk sting recently. Committeeman Spears – Noted that during the Trick or Treat event last week, there were buses parked all over the place at Southern Belle and that children were darted out between the buses. She found this to be very dangerous and feels that the buses should be parked somewhere else. Lt. Schwartzkopf noted that the Police Department was unaware that buses were involved. Chief Martin stated that the event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and feels that complaints should be directed to them. Committeeman Munns – Noted that at the senior event on Wednesday, he was approached by many senior citizens who thanked him for the ‘no’ vote on the garbage issue.
