NEW BUSINESS:
I Bonnie reported her conversation with Mayor Burd regarding the direction of this committee, and it was
again emphasized that the following is our purpose:
"Tire purpose of the Yorkville Ad Noe Senior Citizen Advisory Committee is to
determine what additional senior citizen services are needed that could be provided by
the United City of Yorkville,"
Mayor Burd had suggested several possible projects for this committee to investigate:
I)Using Scouts to help Seniors with tasks such as snow removal, leaf raking
2) Volunteers to help with transportation
3) Grandparents' programs
4)Using Club 47 for walking and water aerobics
5) Parks& Rec discounts for seniors
2 The committee discussed settle of these suggestions and compiled a short list of ways to help seniors:
• Hand out Senior Services brochures to all seniors who come in to City Hall
• Find volunteers to drive seniors to Dr visits, to get prescriptions, eta
• Ask City to mail The Senior Voice to the 473 households in the city where seniors live
• Promote the senior discounts from Parks &Rec Dept.
• Find Scouts or other youth groups to perform service hours for helping seniors.
3. The committee discussed the problem of lack of communication of services currently available to seniors
from the current Senior Services Assoc. Hopefully the mailing of their newsletter will help.
4 The subject of finding a new building for senior activities was discussed. The committee was reminded
that it is not the job of this committee to solve that problem, but rather to focus on finding additional ways
for the City to help senior's.
