CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:05 by Chairman Judith Arms.
PRESENT: Judith Arms,Judy Gilmour,Barry Groesch, Rita Murphy,Mark Johnson, Rose Kahle, Sandie
Yeager,.Joyce Barrett,Bonnie Olsem, Cecelia Sanders, Mayor Valerie Bard.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. NAME CHANGE- - The name of the committee is"Yorkville Ad Hoc Senior Citizen
Advisory Committee"
2, COMMITTEE- MEMBERSHIP- In the future, all citizens will be welcome to participate in
the committee There will be no formal structure,as it is up to the committee to establish our
own criteria for membership.
3 MEMBER UPDATES ON ACTIVITIES - Mark has not heard from any other communities
regarding their senior activities; Rita has not found any new members; Judith found that the
Hometown Hello has a senior brochure but does not always give it to new residents; .Judith
stated that it is not practical for her to compile a list of current senior activities; Rita stated
that Senior Services does have an activity list and coordinates many services for seniors. It
was agreed that this committee does not intend to duplicate services already in existence
4 PURPOSE- OF THE COMMITTEE• - Mayor Bard suggested that we find ways to use the
various city departments to help seniors. The possibility of a survey for seniors was
suggested,and Judith asked that at the next meeting we bring examples of questions that
could be used to poll seniors,age 60 and over
It was noted that currently a wide variety of activities,services, and benefits are available to
seniors in Yorkville,provided by Senior Services Associates, Inc,whose Kendall County
offices are located in the Beecher Community Building. They have a web site,newspaper,
and brochures that explain the wide variety of services offered. This committee does not wish
to duplicate services that are already available. With this in mind,the following statement
expresses the purpose of this committee:
"Tire purpose of the Yorkville Ad Hoc Senior Citizen Advisory Committee is to
determine what additional senior citizen services are needed that could be provided by
the United City of Yorkville."
ADDITIONAL BUSINESS: the next meeting is 4-29-08 at 10:00 AM at the Yorkville
Public Library, in the Historical Room
ADJOURNMENT: Judith Arms adjourned the meeting at 7:15 PM
