Adhoc Senior Citizen Advisory Minutes 2008 05-13-08 YORKVILLE AD HOC SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Tuesday,May 13,2008
1:30 PM
Yorkville Public Library
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 1:30 by Chairman Judith Arms.
PRESENT: Judith Arms, Judy Gilmour, Bonnie Olsem
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Judith Arms is resigning as chairperson and also from the committee. She stated also
that Rita Murphy has resigned from the committee.
2. The committee decided that its recommendations for how the United City of Yorkville
could help Senior Citizens are as follows:
1) As discussed at previous Senior Ad Hoc meetings, Senior Services Assoc. in
Yorkville is currently providing a wide range of services and activities for Senior
Citizens. The committee has expressed the belief that there is a lack of communication
between this organization and the Senior Citizens in the Yorkville area; many Seniors are
unaware of the services that are available to them. With this in mind, this committee
recommends that Yorkville City Hall should routinely make available to Seniors the
Senior Services Association brochure, which lists the current available services, and also
distribute the newspaper The Senior Voice to Seniors who come into the City office.
Bonnie stated that since the last meeting of this committee, these things are
already happening.
2) The second recommendation for the City of Yorkville is to look into the
possibility of discounting the fees for Seniors for activities and classes with the Parks &
Recreation Dept.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 by Judith Arms.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Gilmour, Recording Secretary
