Public Forum:
1. PS 2007-43 Parking Restrictions for Select Arterial and Collector Streets —
There was a question about the purpose and importance of this and why it has
become an issue. Chief Martin explained that a 4 lane parkway is for moving the
traffic. When you park on the street, it is narrower and the traffic is increasing
especially in the case of Countryside Center. Restricting parking helps with the
flow of traffic and decreases accidents.
There was a question about the apartments on Countryside Parkway between
Center and Kendall. They were allowed to be built with inadequate parking. One
side of the street could be no parking in this section and that could be fine. East
and West Countryside Parkway will be treated separately.
There was a question of getting a 4 way stop at the intersection of Center and
Countryside Parkway. It was not warranted the last time a traffic study was done.
There was concern about the restriction during peak restaurant hours such as
Friday nights.
There was a question about Cannonball Trail south of Independence Dr. The
parking ban can be changed to begin at the edge of the new subdivision 180 feet
south if Independence Dr. Then there was a question from Mr. McCue about the
new subdivision. He said the road is currently a dead end and would like to have
the parking ban begin past his 3 lots that face Cannonball Trail. Eventually the
street will go through and then the parking will be an issue. People are more
willing to accept the ban if they know about it before they move in. While they
are model homes, there could be parking on the street, but as soon as the homes
sell, there will be no on-street parking in front of them.
This will go back to committee, and then on to City Council on April 24th
